We inform our specialist we are referring to if they need to contact the patient or if the patient will contact them. Every specialist’s office accepts referrals differently for us.

We send the referral and x-rays to the specialists, and our specialists call the patients to set up the appointment. We always tell our patients if they haven’t heard from them in 3 days to call and make sure to get on their schedule. We make sure to give them their business card with name, number and address before they leave our office.

I work in an oral surgery office. We have offices that tell the patients to call us to schedule, some that call us to schedule for the patient and others that write on the referral for us to contact the patient to schedule. Every office is a little different and no matter what way the office chooses we work with them to make sure that the patient gets seen. The only thing that we need each office to do to make life easier is send a copy of the referral and recent x-rays or photos. Also, please put a date of when the xray or photos was taken. Some offices give them to the patient but a majority of the time the patient loses them and then we have to contact the office to see if they have copies they can send.
